FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

In order to help you prepare for your event, here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

How many musicians are in the band?
Our band varies in size from 6-piece band to a duo. The size of the band you hire should fit the type of function you are having, the kind of music you would like the band to play, the number of invited guests and the size of the room where your affair will take place. Each grouping has its own cost. We take all this into consideration before recommending the size of the band. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A FIVE PIECE MINIMUM FOR SATURDAY NIGHTS.

Can you provide music for our ceremony and/or cocktail hour?
Yes. Rob will sing for wedding ceremonies and you may choose to hire the CST duo or trio for your cocktail hour prior to your main reception/event. The pricing for ceremony and cocktail hour is in addition to the regular pricing for a full event. We can suggest music appropriate for the wedding ceremony or you may request your own music selections.

How can I be sure that the group of musicians I hire will be the same musicians who will perform at my affair?
Charleston Standard Time is a group. There may be a time in which a CST musician because illness or some other serious reason is unable to play. In this event, they will be substituted by another well respected musician of equal quality. Rob Keiter leads the band and is always present.

The ages of our guests will vary considerably. Can your band play all types of music?
The versatility and quality of musicianship in our band is such that our musicians can authentically perform a wide variety of music ranging from the '40's swing era to today's Top 40 dance music. Our song list is very extensive and includes music from every era. After looking at our list, you are always free to choose songs you would like the band to play.

How many breaks does the band take during the night and how long do they play?
A standard engagement is 4 hours. If there is a ceremony or cocktail hour before dinner, arrangements can be made for music to be played during that time. Within 4 hours our band will play a minimum of 4/45 minute sets with 3/15 minute breaks scheduled around the service of food or other event appropriate times. Music will be played during our breaks that contain appropriate music for the time of the event and this is at no additional cost. Sometimes the band is asked to play longer than the contract time a price will be give in advance for this and only the bride or event coordinator can ask the band to do this. If this is agreeable to both parties, the music will continue.

Will the band perform at a volume that is comfortable for me and for my guests?
Charleston Standard Time will perform music that is especially suited for the dinner hour and background to conversation. Also, as the party progresses we are always amenable to lowering the volume at the request of the bride or event coordinator.

Will the band learn a special song?
If you provide four weeks notice, and a CD or MP3 of your song, we will all but guarantee that your song is learned and performed well.

Can I decide what type of music will be played during my reception?
We encourage our clients to go through our song list and highlight the selections they would like the band to play and cross out any selections they do not wish to hear. On the day of your wedding we will perform music you have chosen. Our band is also extremely capable of "reading the crowd" and choosing music we are confident will pack the dance floor.
