Smooth Jazz Daily -August 30, 2010
  • As Rob Keiter stood at the microphone to record his vocals for "This Nearly Was Mine," the opening track of his The Glory of Love album, a torrential flood of tears burst forth unexpectedly. Although he could not contain his raw emotions while singing the heartfelt words about love lost, he sang anyway. What was captured on the recording was something special.... Click here for more

  • Smooth and Soul - First View - Hans-Bernd Hulsmann
  • Rob Keiter describes himself as "helpless romantic". The best requirement as composer and jazz vocalist for a collection of love songs, he has released under the significant title The Glory of Love. What does predestine a singer to intone love songs? Certainly a break-up of a long-lasting marriage. Rob Keiter comments: 'Even though I had lost love, I wanted to sing love songs because I still believe in love. Having sung my entire life, I would say that I truly found my voice as a result of that experience (in the studio)." Rob introduces into his new album with This Nearly Was Mine from the musical South Pacific. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein composed this very popular musical. Some of Rodgers' songs, such as My Funny Valentine and The Lady is a Tramp have become jazz standards. The heartfelt song about a soldier and his beloved woman is well interpreted by Rob Keiter accompanied by the emotional trumpet of Randy Brecker... Click here for more

  • JazzTimes Christopher Loudon on trombonist and singer Rob Keiter - 10/18/2010
  • Though horn players who double as vocalists have been around since Louis Armstrong and the birth of jazz, their ranks remain relatively thin... Now, trombonist Rob Keiter can be added to their exclusive league...The Whitlocks, who served as the album's co-producers (with Rob tripling as pianist and arranger), assembled a top-drawer assortment of bandmates, including trumpeters Randy Brecker and Wayne Bergeron, saxophonist and flautist John Rekevics, bassist Trey Henry, guitarist Pat Kelley, drummer Cliff Almond and trombonist Andy Martin. Keiter, whose dusky voice has a distinct Kenny Rankin quality, opens with the powerful Rodgers and Hammerstein heartbreaker "This Nearly Was Mine," from South Pacific. The mood then turns a shade brighter for the first of two Stevie Wonder selections, a shimmering "Looking for Another True Love." (A soaringly joyful rendering of Wonder's "You Are My Heaven" closes the album)... Click here for more

  • The Glory of Love- Rob Keiter, Sketchin Records Capital Community News/Washington D.C. - October 2010
  • This album showcased Rob Keiter's suave, sophisticated, and silky smooth voice on a collection of classic love songs. Although "The Glory of Love" is distinctly jazz, contemporary, swing and straight-ahead. Mr. Keiter and producers Amber and Rob Whitlock culled material with jazz, pop, R&B and even theatrical roots....... Click here for more

Former area artist Keiter getting noticed - CharlestonScene - Charleston Post and Courier,Thursday November 11, 2010
  • Sometimes you just have to stick with things, hoping they come through and working your tail off to get to completion. Especially in the jazz business. Rob Keiter, a trombonist and vocalist who spent a lot of years in the Charleston area, is a good example.....The production standards, emotional appeal and content of this record make it a real find. Watch out, though. You might fall in love. If you are already, it'll get deeper. If you've been hurt, it'll soothe the pain.... Click here for more
